Hatori & his devotion to Akira and Akito.

♠️ Headcanon: I’ve used this headcanon on here for over a year now, but I’ve never gotten around to typing it up! In the canon material, we know that Hatori’s father was the previous memory suppressor and the previous sole physician of the Sohma Estate. Because of this, he was very close to Akira- the previous head of the family, before Akito. Being the head of the family, and being rather ill towards the end of his life, it wouldn’t be surprising, nor far-fetched to assume that Hatori’s father spent quite a bit of his time serving and being around Akira. Because of this, Hatori himself grew quite attached to the previous head.

Hatori’s father was unloving and cold, as was his mother– Akira was the complete opposite of them, he was warm and loving- Hatori very much saw a father figure in the male. More so than in his own. As Hatori’s father was so loyal to Akira, it was expected for Hatori, as the memory suppressor, doctor, and now: dragon, to follow suit and give his unwavering loyalty to Akito. This was expected of him, and he obliged.

More so, it was Akira who instilled that moral code within the dragon; Hatori’s father hammered it into his mind to do whatever Akito said, to stay by her side until death. Akira, however, was nowhere near as militant. Instead, he simply encouraged Hatori to give her a chance, and he told him time and time again how special Akito was to him, and that he hoped the family would love her as much as he loved her.

Hatori’s admiration and unwavering devotion for Akira had already been set in stone, and as a little boy sitting on Akira’s lap, he promised to watch over Akito until his dying breath. A promise he would never, not once, take lightly.

Of course, Shigure had the dream about Akito- the dog very much felt as if it was his job to watch over Akito and protect her. When the canine caught wind of Hatori’s promise to Akira, it caused quite a bit of animosity between the of them. This is evident in their interactions- Shigure is always snarky, scathing- his way of taking his anger out on Hatori. To take his anger out on Akito, he uses and manipulates her. Shigure never got over that blinding jealousy of his, even to this day.

Because of this, even after the curse was broken- while all the other Sohma(s) began to spread out and leave the Estate, Hatori reminded in his home on the property, up until Akito finally decided to leave herself. The promise he made to Akira is one of the few things he has left to hold onto in his life; the thought of ever disappointing Akira is always looming over him. It also plays a factor in his lack of anger or resentment over the Kana situation– no one would blame him for holding on to some resentment after Akito took not only his sight in his left eye, but his pride, and forced him to cast out of the love of his life. Even then, he could only forgive her, because he knew it was what Akira would’ve wanted.

I think a lot of people under-estimate Hatori’s loyalty to Akito. In the canon material, Hatori pushes himself to do things outside his moral code– but only for her. He is quick to judge Shigure for acting out and putting the family in harm’s way, but if Akito ordered him to do it, Hatori would do anything. His devotion is endless, and that in and of itself is completely terrifying. I think people need to take a second look at his character, he always hailed as a white-knight who can do no wrong, but Hatori is actually rather problematic, and very, very sick mentally. That is often over-looked, unfortunately.

[Fruits Basket] Vol. 2; Chapter 9. Here is your friendly reminder that when Hatori Sohma was first introduced in the series, he was portrayed as a villain! …Until the very next chapter, when his romantic, lost-love sob-story begins. Neat.

Hatori & his glass appreciation/minimalistic style.

♠️ HeadcanonHatori’s favorite color is white! Most of his home is painted white, and what he owns that isn’t white, is black. He’s a fan of monochromatic color schemes, shown in his clothing, home, and vehicle. He is also not a fan of clutter- perhaps the only clutter in his pristine home (thanks to his maids), is his personal library, and his office. The maids are ordered not to go anywhere near his home office (he keeps it locked usually), and to stay out of the extra bedroom he had renovated into a personal library for his book collection.

The library is not cluttered, however, more-so just filled to maximum.

The rest of his home is minimalistic, with clean surfaces and compact furniture and appliances. He finds his mind is less cluttered when his home isn’t. The only decorations Hatori keeps in his home are a few different photographs of family members…

And glass sculptures.

Glass is Hatori’s favorite material, and glassblowing is his favorite and most respected artistic skill. He find glass to be breathtaking, and splurges to buy nice pieces to display around his home. He owns quite a few ocean-inspired pieces, that are all large and extremely pricey. They are his prized possessions. He finds something entirely beautiful about the pieces being frozen in time for all eternity after being molded- he also finds their colorful transparency and texture to be soothing.

He may or may not have a little blown-glass ‘animals of the zodiac’ collection, though those are kept safe in his home office, away from prying eyes.

Glass is steadfast and can weather anything; it is strong, but completely fragile and can be ruined in one fell-swoop. Hatori identifies with it’s majestic beauty.

He fancies his own heart to be made of glass.

Growing up, his father was the type of man who would come from work each night and have a glass of scotch in the evening to calm his nerves. It was no surprise to anyone when Hatori began following suit once reaching his mid-twenties. After his father passed, Hatori made sure to keep the delicate, but ornate scotch glasses his father would nurse each night. Now, Hatori cannot settle and feel as if his day had been completed without a glass or two of scotch on the rocks after work. It’s just one of his many vices, much like his smoking. If those glass cups were to shatter, Hatori would be thrown into an unwavering depression.

They represent his father, that is not something Hatori takes lightly.

Glass plays a very important role in Hatori’s life, it is very important to him.

Hatori & MORE random facts and figures! Part one here.

♠️ Headcanon: I made a post last year where I posted some random, one-off headcanons I had for the seahorse; only small ones that I had no plans on expanding. In going through my Ask tag, I found quite a few headcanons I had posted for various ask memes. I wanted to compile them into one single post and categorize them in my headcanon tag!

♥

PS- one-off, compiled sexual headcanons can be found here.

⌆ a nervous tic or habit they do:

Hatori smokes when he feels nervous or uncomfortable; it’s a self-soothing habit. He also rubs his thumbs together a lot in situations where he can’t smoke. Hatori’s hands are almost always folded in his lap.

❖ describe their hands:

Hatori has massive hands and incredibly long fingers. He has very thick, knot-like knuckles along bony digits. The pads of his hands are calloused, as is the single knuckle on his middle finger where his pen rests. His hands aren’t particularly soft, or rough. Just in-between. He keeps his nails very short and trimmed, so much so that dirt doesn’t collect under them. Even if he didn’t, Hatori washes his hands often (he’s a doctor), so they’re very clean.

§ how would their hair gray? or would they lose their hair first?

Hatori’s hair will gray exceptionally early, due to the stress he’s under. By early thirties, it’ll be quite obvious. If you look close enough now, you’ll already find a few stray grays, much to his chagrin.

⏀ describe their usual smile:

I think sometimes, very rarely, a genuine, happy Hatori smile will appear. With this smile,-his eyes do not narrow, instead, they soften and widen a bit. The smile is much bigger and more sincere. There’s no other emotion you can read from his expression besides pure happiness.

These are the rarest of the rare, you’ll be lucky to get one!

His smiles are rare and illusive, just the corners of his mouth twitching upwards. It bespeaks of multiple emotions, but not one specifically. His eyes narrow, but still hold the slightly cold, slight glare they usually don. His smile can mean a lot of things, but you’ll never be able to pin-point exactly what. For that reason alone, through attractive, his smiles can make you uneasy and can be considered off-putting.

✭ what is one of their favorite items?

Hatori owns multiple lab coats, about three or four, but he has a specific one that he adores and stubbornly uses all the time. He rarely wears the others. This specific lab coat had gotten ripped by mistake (probably Shigure rough-housing in his doggy form) and Kana had sewn the ripped shoulder with red colored string for him. Unforunately at the time, red was the only color she had, otherwise it would’ve been white and not noticable. Hatori thought it was rather funny, the ugly red stitching on the shoulder of his lab coat. After she left, it was a reminder of her, so he is partial to that specific lab coat now.

❤ describe how they show affection:

As a doctor, Hatori shows his affection by constantly monitoring the health of those around him. Hatori is very concerned with everyone’s well-being, and the best way he can show it, is by ensuring they remain in good health.

✭ what is one of their favorite items?

The framed photo Hatori keeps of Kana in his home office is one of the most important things in the world to him. Nothing could make him get rid of it; even if he were to marry someone else (Mayu), he could not discard it. It has nothing to do with still having feelings for his old assistant, he just feels as if throwing it away would mean throwing away their memories together (just like Kana did) and Hatori is very sensitive about that.

Despite erasing everyone else’s memories, he would never erase his own.

Hatori has a very specific scotch glass that his father gave him. It was hand-blown and made specifically for the Sohma family doctors generations ago. Hatori grew up watching his father drink from it after hard, long days of work, and now Hatori does the same. It relaxes him, even if he wasn’t particularly close to his father.

✆- What your muse’s phone gallery is filled with?

Hatori doesn’t own a cell phone; he’s awful with technology, and even if he did own one, he wouldn’t use it to take pictures. He has a photo album at home, filled with pictures of Shigure and Ayame, and young Akito. Hatori likes taking pictures, but he’s not a fan of being in front of the camera. He avoids it at all costs (and thus why in the few actual photos of him there are, he looks extra grumpy.)

∞- Does your muse believes in afterlife?

No, Hatori has absolutely no religion, and he believes once we are gone, we are gone. He’s a pessimist, and a doctor/scientist, plus Akito being his ‘god’… Of course he’s not religious.

☺- Something that makes your muse happy:

Hatori likes quiet time. Curling up with a good book and glass of scotch in the evening is his ideal.

☹- Something that makes your muse sad/upset:

Everything? Hatori’s sensy. He’s sensitive to everything. Everything upsets his delicate sensibilities. Of course, the big ones, like Kana, Akito, Shigure’s teasing, etc… But pretty much anything can set Hatori off, turning him into a grumpy, whiny baby.

Ktenology: Have they ever planned a murder, whether serious or not? If so, describe what they planned to do:

Hatori has thought not-so-seriously about killing Ayame, Shigure, and Akito. Most of all, he thinks about killing himself. It varies between seriously and not-so-seriously, depending on the day and how much scotch he has consumed. Do not fear, however, Hatori is too much of a coward to ever commit suicide. Even he knows this, and he despises it.

Welter: What subject will they never fully understand?

There is a lot Hatori will never fully understand. I think besides the cliche answers of space, religion, and other various topics with few set answers, I think Hatori doesn’t understand human nature. He is a gentle man, and one with less-than-stellar social skills. Love and human nature elude him; he doesn’t understand why people can be so vengeful and spiteful. Humans hurt each other viciously for no reason- he’s watched Akito and Shigure do their dance for years. He doesn’t even remotely understand it, he’s on a completely different plane from them.

Hatori doesn’t have a single mean bone in his body; revenge is nothing he cares about, and he’s desperately just trying to find happiness. He cannot physically understand why so many people wound the people around them and cause chaos when they’ve been blessed with so many things in their life- a husband or wife to love, children, etc- why can’t they see what they have right in front of them and stop the malicious behavior? Hatori thinks about human nature a lot, and it often upsets him.

Gorgonize: What distracts them when they’re trying to get things done?

Momiji, Shigure, and Ayame. Haha, no really, Hatori can be easily distracted. His own thoughts can run away from him from time to time as he internalizes everything- he’s the kind of person who will sit and read a book for forty-five minutes, only to realize he hasn’t absorbed the last fifteen pages because he was thinking about something else and just scanning his eyes over the words. His biggest distraction is himself.

Infandous: What topics will they refuse to speak about?

There’s four! Religion (he’s atheist, and while he finds different religions incredibly intriguing, he doesn’t feel as if it’s an appropriate topic to discuss casually), sex (for obvious reasons), Akito (for OBVIOUS reasons), and his childhood. Hatori will reluctantly talk about any of the above mentioned four if you coax it out of him, but never expect him to bring them up first.

Noegenesis: Are there any topics that they love to think about deeply?

Typical things, like love, soul mates, religion, the vastness of space, human morality, etc. He’s a highly educated guy, and he loves pondering about things! He loves when people ask questions that require a lot of thought, he really values being able to evaluate himself and everything he knows to try and reach a conclusion. However, he’s always going to reach a conclusion, even if just to put his own mind at ease. Hatori doesn’t like questions that have no set answer, if there is no conceivable answer, then what is even the point in questioning it? It’s a waste of time to him.

Cacodemonomania: Do they believe in the paranormal? If so, have they had any supernatural encounters?

I once wrote a headcanon kind of similar to this question! Long story short, I think Hatori isn’t quite sold on the idea of the paranormal. Being a methodical man, a man of science and medical discovery, he’s a “I’ll believe it when I see it” kind of guy. He hasn’t had any paranormal experiences, and besides Akira, there’s no one that’s currently dead that Hatori would ever like to see again. Deep down, Hatori isn’t sure whether he believes in the supernatural or not, but due to his childhood (thanks, Shigure) he has a deep rooted fear of it, and the unknown in general.

Acersecomic: How much effort do they put into personal grooming and hygiene?

Hatori is very metro! He is VERY clean (hello, he’s a doctor), and very well groomed at all times. He prides himself on his own appearance (not because of his looks, but because of the care he takes in making sure he’s cleaned and presentable at all times). The only “messy” thing about him is his bangs over his left eye, and those are grown out to hide his biggest insecurity. They are there for a purpose, it’s not something he’s overlooked.

Zugzwang: What’s the trickiest problem they face in their life right now?

Akito. Akito is always the trickiest thing in his life. Finding a way to keep a balance of making her happy, but helping her grow as a person without smothering her has always been a problem for him. His own internal struggles of not resenting her for the Kana incident and blaming himself is also a big struggle dwelling within the dragon. The answer is easy. It’s always Akito.

Tarantism: Describe their dancing style.

Depends on the situation! If it’s classical dancing, Hatori was trained in ballroom as a child and particularly likes the waltz! He’s quite the gentleman on the dance floor. However, if we’re talking club dancing… God help us all. It’ll take quite a few shots, but he might finally loosen up and sway a little bit against his partner if the song is catchy and they’re pressed up against him. (Assuming he doesn’t change into a seahorse, of course.)

Bite me: Name a kink.

Hatori’s only two kinks are that he enjoys watching his partner masturbate in front of him, and he likes playing ‘doctor’ in the bedroom. Pretty vanilla all things considered, but hey- It’s Hatori.

Washing Machine: Ever do it in a weird place before?

Hatori’s had sex in a few places outside the bedroom, but nowhere public or particularly scandalous. While his morals and traditionalism prevent him from having sex anywhere truly crazy, get him worked up enough and the dragon will give in just about every time.

Porn Collection: Do you watch porn? Do you make your own porn?

No, no! Hatori is repulsed by porn! He’d rather die than look at someone he doesn’t know or love get naked. However, as for making his own porn… Perhaps if he was with the right person and felt absolutely positive no would would ever find it, maybe!

French Maid: Do you roleplay in bed?

Not regularly, or anything crazy, but Hatori does enjoy a little bit doctor/nurse role-playing in the bedroom sometimes. Call him ‘doctor’ during intimacy and he’s yours.

Self Torture: What do you like to masturbate to?

Hatori masturbates strictly to his partner, if he has one at the time. If not, then it’s nothing in particular and he’s probably masturbating because it’s been a few months and it’s a necessity at that point. He’ll just get it done in the shower and move on.

Turn Off: Name a turn off.

Hatori dislikes overly rough sex, or sex that doesn’t seem to have much love or affection behind it.

I have a headcanon that Hatori actually has really good grip on things because seahorse are known to grip tightly to things like kelp and other grass-like plants when waves rush in that could easily blow them away.

✲ :Something or someone they down right hate:

Akito’s abusive behavior, Shigure’s manipulation, Ayame’s loud voice, getting woken up from naps, getting frantic calls from Hatsuharu about Yuki’s health, Kyo’s temper, Tohru’s absent-mindedness (he’s worried she will hurt herself), Hiro’s attitude, Kagura’s special ability to break everything, Rin’s general fight-or-flight deposition…

✭ :An obscure interest:

Glassblowing! The few decorations around Hatori’s admittedly minimalistic-styled home are all glass pieces. He loves intricate glass vases, bottles, and even glass animals. He find them to be fragile and timeless, but sturdy and beautiful. Glassblowing is not something he’d ever take up himself, but he enjoys going to local art festivals and watching the artisans perform their craft. He usually spends quite a hefty amount on their pieces after the show, and likes displaying the glass knickknacks around his home.

✢ :Physical advantage:

Hatori is rather tall, he’s 6′, so height is a good advantage for him.

✣ :Physical disability/disadvantage:

Hatori is only 68kg, or 150lbs. He is rail thin.

✪ :Critique they have about others:

Others do not seem to want to put in the effort to work for what they want. The Sohma family is huge, and terribly spoiled. Hatori is one of the few who has worked himself down to the bone to accomplish his goals, many of the others just expect things to be handed to them. It frustrates Hatori to no end.

✩ :Belief they’ve questioned/struggled with:

Cliche as hell, but the age-old concept of is it better to have loved and lost, or to have never loved at all. After the Kana incident, though he holds those memories very dear, he always wondered how different his life would have been had he never pursued her in the first place.

⋆ :Minor personality flaw or quirk:

Hatori has a tendency to flee from situations. If he feels uncomfortable, frightened, annoyed, it doesn’t matter. He will vacate the premise immediately. It’s amusing to watch. He often goes to hide in his office at home. Disgruntled and stewing, murmuring to himself like a crotchety old man.

✧ :Mental or emotional strength:

Mental, Hatori lacks emotional strength completely.

✬ :Something minor they enjoy:

He enjoys eating out in public alone. He often goes by himself to restaurants and finds not having to make light, idle conversation at dinner, and instead, just enjoying the atmosphere and food alone to be much more pleasurable.

✭ :An obscure interest:

He is very intrigued, and absolutely disgusted, by American food. He both wants to try everything he can find, and also abhors it. It’s a love-hate thing.

✬ :Something minor they enjoy:

Lazy Sunday mornings, as Sunday is his only day off each week. Sleeping in til’ 7 AM is a utter and complete luxury for the over-worked physician.

✭ :An obscure interest:

As a doctor, he’s rather intrigued and well-read on psychology and dieases of the mind. He has hundreds of books he’s bought on his own accord to study the various states of mental health- and yes, he’s been trying to accurately diagnose Shigure for years now. Still to no avail. Damn that mutt.

✮ :A moral standard:

Hatori does not believe in manipulating people for selfish reasons. If he needs something, he will be blunt and straight to the point, no exceptions.

⋆ :Minor personality flaw or quirk:

Hatori has a severe martyr complex/a holier-than-thou attitude towards everyone. He has a very specific set of standards that he holds himself to, and  if the people around him do not have as high standards as he does, he automatically judges them. Hatori would never shun anyone for their lifestyle or beliefs, but he will make his opinion and distaste known.

What is Hatori’s favorite tea?

White tea! With no sugar. If it has sugar, he will hiss and back away from it. Hatori despises sweet things and he has very, very sensitive taste buds. He prefers his food to be very bland, he’s not a fan of overly strong flavors. He has a very sensitive palate. He favorite type of white tea is Silver Needle, it has the same characteristics as most white teas- it’s light, herbally, and gentle to the taste buds. It’s got a bit of a bamboo flavor to it, with some cucumber and almond undertones. He likes earthy notes in his tea. 🙂

Serious question, if Hatori is a doctor why does he smoke?

Because Hatori Sohma has a severe, incurable martyr complex, and while he cares deeply about the health of others, his own is not of any concern. Also, anon, it’s important to remember that everyone has their vices.

♡   What they do after sex:

Hatori is very, very into (and very picky about) after-care after sex. He can’t relax until both himself and his partner are cleaned up and he’s ensured that they aren’t/weren’t injured or sore in any way. After all that is handled, he does like a bit of cuddling… But they need to be clean first or Hatori will spaz out.

♤   Worst time ever:

Getting particularly drunk and his partner not prepping him enough while he was on the receiving end. He was sore for days, and furious.

☀   Masturbate or seek for a helping hand?

Hatori rarely masturbates, he will go to his partner if he’s in the mood. He’s loyal to a fault and tends to just save all of himself for his lover, unless it absolutely cannot be helped. So, helping hand.

ψ    Roleplay? If so, what exactly?

Roleplay isn’t really his thing, it starts to affect his self-esteem if his partner just wants him to keep pretending to be someone else. He begins to wonder if he isn’t enough for them. However, he will indulge in a bit of doctor/patient if he’s in a particularly playful mood.

♛  One thing partner should never do:

Rush him; Hatori likes to take his time. That, and if Hatori is on the bottom, they need to not skip preparation or he will be furious.

☂    Foreplay or straight to business?

This entirely depends. Hatori is so rushed 90% of his day, taking the time to languidly explore his partner’s body is definitely something he enjoys. However, if they’ve been staring at each other all night from across the room and he’s getting frustrated, he’ll more or less skip the foreplay and get right to business once they have a moment alone.

♚  Most sensitive spot:

His neck, no competition.

♥    Number of sexual partners:

He’s had a handful, but not many. Hatori’s VERY demisexual and tends to only have sexual partners that he’s very, very in love with, or that he has known for a good chunk of his life.

☮   Position Preferences:

Hm, he prefers to be on top. Usually missionary, so he can see his partner’s face. He’s very into visuals (as his eye-sight isn’t the best), so he enjoys being able to see their pleasure.

♔  What gets them in the mood:

Conversation! If someone can hold a witty, intelligent banter with him, and bring their own ideas and beliefs to the table in a sophisticated, composed manner, Hatori’s already very interested in them. You have to seduce his mind before you can even hope to get in his pants. There is nothing more stimulating than a good dialog for him. Any blatant sexual advances disgust him, he finds it lewd and completely unappealing. However, approaching him with riveting conversation about worldly topics is the quickest way to get him in your bed.

Was Kana Hatori’s first girlfriend? Did he date in high school?

That is a good question! Thank you for asking! I’m sorry I’m answering this a few days late, I haven’t been on Tumblr much the past few days!

As for your question, we don’t know. That’s not specifically confirmed anywhere, but considering that it took less than two months time for Hatori to meet her, fall in love, completely change his way of life, his morals, his wardrobe, etc, and then go to their God to ask for her hand in marriage, I’d say that sounds like a man who’s never experienced love before. He grew much too gung-ho about the relationship, thus why he compromised his morals (and knew what the outcome would be), yet still tempted fate by asking Akito. He was blinded by love, and those rose-tinted glasses of his obscured his view.

As for high-school!Hatori, we have a good bit of information on him during his teen years, but only these two moments concerning his love life:

(Volume 4, chapter 22)

When Ayame and Shigure are discussing the high-school boys that wandered off into the red light district during a school trip (meaning, the boys wandered off into, presumably, a brothel) Yuki and Kyo just automatically assume it was the Mabudachi Trio, but Ayame and Shigure quickly rebuttal, saying: “Not that we went with them…” “No, we’d long since grown tired of that.” That being sex. This implies that the three of them were very sexually active, though, keep in mind two things: 1) It was Shigure who said this. Take everything that asshole says with a grain of salt, because he more or less just spouts things for shock value. 2) This was another little joke by Takaya, hinting at a homosexual relationship between the Shigure, Ayame, and Hatori- those implied jokes are rampant throughout the series.

(Volume 15, chapter 87)

In a side panel where Takaya discusses some facts about the characters, for Hatori, the last fact she lists is: “When he was in high school, he was fairly popular with the students from the girls’ school next door. All three of the Mabudachi Trio were popular in that regard.” I mean, Hatori’s a handsome little devil, so it’s unsurprising that he garnered attention for his looks. However, she neglects to mention that any of them acted on the offers of the students from the girls’ school, so it’s doubtful they dated at all. Not with the curse present, and both Shigure and Ayame imply that they believe they are above dating any of their classmates (particularly Ayame; he is seen brutally turning down a girl later in the series).

To answer your question- I believe so, yes! Kana was his first relationship. We aren’t shown anything from when Hatori was in college, but considering that he graduated from medical school early, I’d say he was MUCH too busy to even remotely notice anyone else.

i still think hatori might be making akito even more sicker, like over doing her treatment to give her more of a bad headache so she won’t be able to abuse people as much as she does, also as well as akito acting up to keep Hatori close to her tbf

I agree. I think in a way, he over-exaggerates to keep her home-bound on the estate and keep her from lashing out at others. However, I also think it gives him a purpose. If she wasn’t as sick as she was, he’s be worthless. Akito is, for all intensive purposes, his reason for living. Hatori was born for her, to be her dragon and protect her/protect the family/protect the curse, and it seems as if the only thing he can even remotely do for her is heal her ailments. He can’t make her happy, he can’t give her anything she doesn’t already have… All he has is his curative powers and his memory erasing.

He uses both skills indiscriminately for her. Hell, he gave up his chance at love for Akito. His steadfast determination to her isn’t something to take lightly. He threw his entire life away for her, and doesn’t blame or resent her. Hatori is sick; sick the way Kureno was, in the way Shigure was- the only difference being that he likes to feign as if he’s better than them and not as delusional, which is entirely twisted, if you were to ask me.

It’s very, very sad. Hatori was more devoted to her than Shigure could ever be; as Hatori said to Shigure, his methods were questionable, but the dog’s motives were pure. Hatori says it himself, Shigure is better than him for trying to change things, trying to break the curse- Hatori admits to being a coward.

What is a doctor who has no patients to heal? They are nothing. Thankfully, he’ll always have Akito- in one way or another- and he’ll make sure of that.

I could write an entire dissertation on why Hatori is problematic, honestly.

Wrath: There has been two times in his life that Hatori felt true hurt and anger, both were towards Akito. The first was when he was very young, still just a teenager in high school, when he had to erase Yuki’s friend’s memories. After that, Yuki became fearful and distrusting of the dragon, and it broke Hatori’s heart. He had spent awhile ignoring the rat due to Ayame’s wishes to not knowledge his younger brother, but once Hatori decided that was foul and pointless, he very much wished to grow close to the boy.

Of course, Akito’s order to erase their memories knocked that out of the realm of possibilities. Yuki began to resent him, and in return, Hatori resented Akito. While it wasn’t entirely her fault- Hatori was born to protect the family, after all- he still needed a figure to blame for his own poor choices. That, and for a very brief period after the Kana mishap, Hatori very much hated and resented Akito. That was brief and short-lived.

Afterwards, he learned to just blame himself instead.

Envy: Hatori is envious of Shigure’s ability to be utterly charming (something Hatori severely lacks), and his fearlessness when going against the norm. The dog isn’t afraid to stand up to those in power and looking down his nose at them, it is secretly something he greatly admires in the mutt. Of course, Hatori believes Shigure could be a bit more tactful in his approach, but it was Shigure who set into motion the curse breaking. Hatori sat by idly and did nothing because he was afraid. He truly believe that despite the questionable schemes, his motives were not at all spiteful or malicious. He envies the dog’s plucky spirit.

Sloth: This one is asking specifically for something that Hatori hates to do- now, normally, I would answer erasing memories, however, that is not laziness related at all, that is just emotionally traumatic. So, my answer will be sleeping and waking up in the morning! Hatori often has trouble with his sleeping schedule, he finds it to be wasteful- wasting away perfectly good hours of the night to get things done during.

Thoughts like that often keep him up and wide awake. By the time morning rolls around, he is miserably tired and just drags himself to the closet to get dressed, slumps over the table to eat, and practically dozes off at his desk until around 9 AM, in which he finally begins to perk up. Luckily, his appointments are not usually any earlier than 10 AM, so he can afford the laziness. Hatori is quite slothful in the morning, during his daily routine.

Envy: Hatori harbors extreme amounts of envy for Kureno. Despite his ever changing and wavering feelings for the little God, he feels as if it is his right as the dragon of the family, the protector, to be the closest one to her. He is in charge of her health and well-being, yet he still plays second best to the bird who is suffering from a slight case of Stockholm syndrome and enables her by giving in to Akito’s every wish.

While Hatori holds no resentment towards Akito for the Kana incident, he can see that she is keeping him at arm’s length due to her own guilt over blinding him in his left eye. For whatever reason, perhaps it is the curse’s influence, he feels drawn to her like a whimpering child and tries desperately to stifle the begs for her attention that he feels nagging deep inside him. He is abundantly aware that Kureno is the favorite, and try as he might to fight off that unsavory feeling, Hatori is envious of the caged sparrow.

How big is your penis?

Eight and a half inches. It’s a bit more on the thinner side, but what he lacks in girth he more than makes up for in length. It is much like Hatori himself, he’s tall and rail-thin. He has no idea he’s as well-endowed as he is because Hatori has never really given a second thought to something so trivial and meaningless.

Do you think you’re “good” at sex, or your skill could use improvement?

Hatori truly believes he is awful at sex; however, he also believes that being “good” at sex is irrelevant if you are making love to someone you have a bond with. It’s an experience for both parties, good or bad. He does his best, and though he would not be so quick to admit it, he is extraordinary with his mouth and tongue, and whatever he lacks in sexual ability, he makes up for with his attentiveness to his partner. Their needs always come first, and if the first round were to be… Unsatisfying, you can guarantee he’ll keep his attention solely on you for the rest of the night until he’s made it up to you. He truly is a 100% selfless lover.

Do you like having your balls touched?

No, instant turn off for the dragon. He will try and squirm away, they’re much too sensitive and he finds zero pleasure in the act.

Do you like being naked?

Yes, if he is alone or with his partner. Especially at night, he gets hot throughout the night and often strips down/throws the covers off.

Are you comfortable with partners seeing you nude in non-sexual contexts?

Absolutely, he is a doctor, he is not squeamish about the human body. Most times you will ever see him naked will be in a non-sexual context. He is fine with nudity, as long as it is only his partner who seems him in such a state.

Have you ever “compared” (genitals, breasts, whatever) with a friend?

Often. Shigure and Ayame are much too curious about those sorts of things…

Have you ever given/received a footjob, boobjob, etc.?

Received; Shigure’s rather dexterous with his feet and likes exploring under the kotatsu during family dinners just to irritate Hatori and make him uncomfortable.

Strangest/most unique place you’ve had sex? How about masturbated?

The kitchen, and the shower. Very, very tame.

Do you like your butt?

You are actually a horrible human being, and you should feel bad. No, he does not, because he has no butt and it’s actually shameful and embarrassing. Hatori had no clue he was different until he joined this stupid website, where everyone is obsessed with each other’s backsides for whatever reason, and now he’s self-conscious about it. It’s ridiculous.

What do you masturbate to (porn, smut, imagination, etc.)?

Porn or smut of any type absolutely disgusts Hatori- he finds it all very forced and uncomfortable to watch, he has no desire to see anyone he does not love naked, nor is he amused by the fact that there are actually actors who will not only have sex on camera- but do so without love between them. They are all but strangers to one another, and Hatori cannot physically imagine a worse situation.

If he has to relieve himself, it will be shamefully in the shower (for easy clean up, Hatori finds it entirely degrading to act on such primal desires, and he’s a bit touchy about the clean up afterwards, so the shower is the best place for him), and it will be his imagination he uses. Needless to say, they are very tame, vanilla fantasies, but he doesn’t need much.

Worst place/time you’ve ever gotten a boner?

Hatori isn’t one to really suffer from such an affliction, his arousal is very dependent on quite a few factors- being in private is one of them. He is damned-near physically incapable of truly growing aroused in places in which he should not get aroused, because he’s Hatori. However- he has had a few at work that made him highly uncomfortable. Not during an examination or anything, he was alone at the time and it happened naturally/not-sexually at all. Hatori was very upset about it and fretted over it for a few days. He’s very fussy.

Gluttony: Hatori likes his food to be very, very bland. Any strong or potent flavors offend his senses and he will refuse to eat it. He primarily lives on rice, unseasoned salmon, and sauteed vegetables in light olive oil. He does not have a sweet tooth and prefers fruit if he does get the rare craving for dessert. As for obsessions, where do I even start? He’s a weird dude.

Lust: I’m answering this one here as well because I’m lazy and I want to do them in one ask. Hatori much prefers to give than receive in any and all sexual situations, gender of the partner is irrelevant. He is very uncomfortable when the attention is strictly on him, he’d much rather spoil his partner. The dragon possesses a very skilled tongue and hands, though!

Wrath: To say that Shigure makes Hatori angry would be the understatement of the century. Despite the obvious mutual understanding and respect between the men, Hatori often finds himself with a twitchy fist and a furrowed brow almost every single time he is around the immature mutt. Hatori does not understand his humor, nor does he enjoy partaking in Shigure’s conniving little games. What perhaps makes him the most angry, however, is that he knows deep down no matter what Shigure does- Hatori will always end up right by his side in the end, and will always be his closest companion. That is what infuriates him the most- their intertwined fate together. It is inevitable.

Pride: His intelligence. Hatori was able to graduate medical school early, he is a very, very bright man and what he lacks in street-smarts or common sense, he more than makes up for with book-smarts. He’s the kind of asshole that truly believes at any given time, he is the smartest person in the room and has no problem letting that be known to the world. He often looks down his nose at others that he finds to be a less-than-suitable interlocutor and has no shame in doing so. It is a wonder how he handles Ayame so well…

shigure-san:

//And finally after some time of secrecy these two unveil their costumes! Shigure as the king of Kaijus with his very handsome skyscraper fiance! My wife @hatori-sohma and I have been very excited about their couple’s costumes and since Halloween is tomorrow we decided to finally reveal them after keeping them a secret! These two boys are quite excited to spend their first holiday together as a couple as are we! They are very special to us and I know that Halloween is Sydney’s favorite holiday so I wanted to do something special for them and we both thought this would be perfect ❤

So a happy early Halloween to everyone from all of us! Be sure to be safe wherever you’re planning on going and to eat your candy responsibly 😉

Yay! I’m so excited to finally show you guys Hatori’s Halloween costume; my lovely wife is filled with endless amounts of talent and potential, and she was able to draw our baby boys in their costumes this year! They went as a matching set:

Godzilla, and an unsuspecting skyscraper!

Of course, I need not explain why they chose these outfits, other than Shigure is literally a dinosaur in the flesh, and Hatori is as tall as skyscraper. You can guarantee that Shigure took full advantage of this, and toppled Hatori over every chance he got.

Happy Halloween, guys! Go have fun and stay safe!

Hatori & his maids!

♠️ Headcanon:

Hatori is very, very reliant on his maids. I’ve mentioned that a million times here on this blog, including in most of my role-plays, but it’s time I finally write a headcanon about this for future reference. As Hatori was not close with neither his mother or his father, Hatori was raised by a young housemaid named Ms. Yamada. She was kind, one of the few kind figures in his life, and Hatori took to her immediately

As a child, she was his personal maid. She would bathe him, feed him, dress him, and watch over him as if he were her own son. The few smiles Hatori had as a child were shared with her. She challenged him, in a way that not even his father had- she didn’t push him, no, she encouraged him to learn more and do more with his life. Hatori was completely enamored with her, never leaving her side and vowing to take care of her one day once she got old.

By age twelve, Ms. Yamada had married young; a nice man that Hatori only glimpsed a few times picking her up from Hatori’s home. By now, Hatori’s mother had passed and his father’s health was beginning to decline. Akira himself had also passed, leaving Akito in charge of the family. Seeing the bond Hatori had with his maid, she cast out Mrs. Yamada out of jealousy and hired new maids to take care of Hatori. Now, it was no longer one maid who cared for the dragon, he now had a swarm who fluttered around him daily and had different tasks

Hatori barely had the time to learn their names; they had no interest in forming a bond with him, just merely taking care of their duties. The new maids Akito had hired were elderly, stern– set in their own traditional ways. It only reinforced the wall Hatori was steadily building around him in his pre-teen years. As he never had to do a single thing for himself, Hatori became reliant on them for everything. Absolutely everything.

Now, as an adult, Hatori cannot even dress himself in the morning. All meals are prepared by the help around his home, his dry cleaning is handled by them, even his own suits are not picked out by him– in fact, he gives them money each month and they have his suits specially ordered for him. Without them, Hatori could not even boil water on his own without burning the house down. He is like a child; a rich little boy who had everything handed to him and now can no longer care for himself without help around the home.

During the time that he dated Kana, she took on most of the responsibility, but that was short-lived, as their relationship had just reached the two-month mark when Akito intervened

This is a shock to most, as Hatori comes across as a rather well-off, independent man. While emotionally, he is independent and can care for himself– Hatori is capable of nursing his own wounds, it is the other responsibilities in his life he had to neglect due to his family’s wealth, and due to pouring so much of his time into the medical field and his school work. He missed out on necessary life-skills and is now extraordinarily behind on a number of household duties.

Hatori and Tooru’s couple playlist; coming up in December, @thehappyonigiri and I will celebrate our one year anniversary of creating this ship together, Hatooru! Hatori Sohma and Tooru Honda… We’ve spent months and months working on this ship together, and it’s safe to say, we have their entire lives planned out, and damned near finished planning out their children’s lives. It’s magnificent, and very special to my heart.

Being one of my best friends in the entire world, I feel super blessed to share such a beautiful friendship with Julia, including being able to create such a beautiful ship with her. To celebrate, we’ve worked together to make a playlist of thirty songs we truly feel as if encompasses the essence of the relationship between Hatori Sohma and Tooru Honda. ♥

Hatori & his timeline!

♠️ Headcanon: Back in March, I

filled out a tag that required you to basically list your muses’ entire timeline, and it took me a few days to write out exactly how I imagined Hatori’s life would go in the canon verse. It’s been sitting on my ‘About’ page, and in my ‘Tag’ tag for awhile now, and I realized even after all these months, these are still headcanons I hold dear to my heart. So, I wanted to repost it and make the entire thing a headcanon entry!

A good few of you have already read this before, but if not:

BASICS.

NAME. Hatori Sohma.
AGE. Twenty-eight.
SPECIES. Human possessed by the spirit of the Chinese zodiac dragon.
GENDER. Male.
PROFESSION. Doctor, Dragon, Memory Suppressor/family protector.
STATUS.  Single/Dating

PHYSICAL ASPECTS.

BODY TYPE. Svelte, frighteningly thin.
HAIR. Long grey/black hair, bangs covering his left eye.
EYES. Angular and grey, blind in his left.
SKIN. Very, very pale.
HEIGHT. 6′

PREFERENCES.

SMELLS. He doesn’t like overly strong smells; the smell of his partner is his favorite.
FOOD. French dishes, salmon, rice, all kinds of sushi and fish.
FRUITS. Hatori find fruits a bit too sweet, but he’ll eat any.
DRINKS. Scotch, tea.

FAMILY.

PARENTS. Hasumi Sohma (mother), Akari Sohma (father), both deceased; mother died of an illness when he was nine,  father at seventeen. Illness took him as well.
GRANDPARENTS.
OTHER RELATIVES. —-
ANY PETS?  yes [   ] || no [ x ]
– If yes which and how many? —- None.

SKILLS.

MEDICAL AND DOCTOR SKILLS. Healing is Hatori’s number one talent, one he worked his entire life towards. Forced into medical school by his father, Hatori had a long line of family doctors backing him. He an efficient MD and proud of his work.

DRIVING. Hatori is particularly skilled behind the wheel of a car, and a very safe driver! Getting his license the day of his birthday, Hatori is one of the few in his family who can even legally operate a vehicle.

READING AND COLLECTING/IDENTIFYING LITERATURE. Hatori is an avid reader of all types of genres, he particularly likes American and English (mostly French!) authors. He’s well read and has an entire room in his home dedicated to being his own personal library.

DANCING. Learning ballroom waltzes from a very young age due to Akira being a gracious God, wanting the zodiac members to excel at life and become fit young gentlemen worthy of finding love, Hatori is trained in classical dance. He enjoys dancing when the mood takes him.

MEMORY SUPPRESSING. Being the dragon of the zodiac entitles you to one specific gift the rest of the zodiac do not have- having the ability to suppress memories via hypnosis. Being able to erase from a single second, down to decades of time from someone’s mind is certainly a skill- whether it’s a blessing or a curse, that’s for you to decide.

DRINKING AND IDENTIFYING YEARS OF ALCOHOL.  Scotch and reading are the biggest loves of Hatori’s life. Most of his hefty paychecks each month go towards a decent year of scotch, assuring himself that it’s money well spent, being one of the few things to calm his nerves each evening. Blindfold him and give him multiple glasses and brands of scotch, he can easily identity the year by taste alone.

THE ABILITY TO REMAIN NEUTRAL.  While Hatori is traditional, and a good person who withholds a strong set of morals he’s placed on himself, Hatori can always play Switzerland. Of course, expect the dragon to voice his concerns, but he will never betray or align with anyone. Hatori will avoid conflict and sit back, allowing people to make their own decisions.

TRAITS.

POSITIVE.
  — Brilliantly intelligent.
  — Loyal to a fault.
  — Very driven in life and his career.
  — Empathetic (painfully so).
  — Gentle soul.
  — The ability to always forgive, not hold grudges.
  — Patient.

NEGATIVE.
  — Stubborn and set in his ways.
  — Traditional to a fault.
  — Almost completely selfless. (Yes, this is a fault for him.)
  — Can be a crybaby.
  — Keeps a wall up, much too guarded and unwilling to open up.
  — Perhaps too focused on his job.
  — Can be overly judgmental when other’s actions don’t live up to his set morals.

EXPERIENCES.

(According to Fruits Basket manga; Canon-verse.)

INFANCY. Hatori is born to Hasumi and Akari; he is their only child. Hasumi hadn’t wanted children, but she birthed a boy for Akari to have a successor for the memory suppression, and to fill the family doctor position once her husband is gone. Hasumi worked as a maid in the Sohma house, and after watching his closest companion- Akira- marry a housemaid, he decided to follow suit and marry Hasumi. While Hasumi loved Akari very much, he was ambivalent towards her. He just needed a wife to birth a son for him- Akari was aromantic and asexual, but he wasn’t aware. He merely thought she didn’t hold his interest. This caused a rift between the two and their marriage rapidly became rocky. They also quickly realize Hatori’s curse is diminished from Akari’s, Hatori turns into a seahorse, not a dragon. Akari is furious, and resents his son for his shameful form.

TWO. Hatori’s first word was “Please.” He was the first of his cousins to walk and talk, a brilliant child with amazing learning speed. Labelled a child prodigy. He doesn’t see his mother much, he is raised by Miss Yamada, his nanny and personal maid. Any memories Hatori has of seeing his father around are scarce, and not particularly pleasant.

FOUR. Hatori is a happy, but shy child, oblivious to his arguing parents. He spends most of his time with Ayame and Shigure, and often finds himself in trouble due to their scheming. Akito is born not long after, and Hatori feels a rift starting to form between him and Shigure.

SIX. Hatori’s true personality is beginning to form; shy, quiet, reserved, and a bit more serious than any other children his age, he’s starting to notice that his parents aren’t happy together. Mrs. Yamada gets married young, Hatori wasn’t allowed to attend her wedding. His father begins cracking down on Hatori to start studying. Hatori and Akira grow very close, as Akira (the current head of the family) and Akari are close. Akira is like an uncle to Hatori, but Hatori views him as so much more than that. Hatori and the other cousins begin taking martial arts, etiquette classes, and ballroom dancing as per Akira’s request. Hatori enjoys himself.

EIGHT-TEN. Akito, jealous that Hatori seemed to always prefer playing with Mrs. Yamada over her, demands that the maid be fired. The tiny God’s order is fulfilled, as Akira has passed away and Hatori feels as if he’s lost in the only true father figure in his life- Akira- and now his mother figure- Mrs. Yamada- has also left him. Hatori begins building the wall. Akito grows more violent in her young age after losing her father, and Shigure still followers her around like a lap dog. A year or two later, his mother falls ill and Hatori says goodbye to her as well. It wasn’t until long after he’d become an adult that he realized his mother was mentally unstable, on top of being in poor health as well. Her death didn’t affect his day to day life, as she was never much of a mother to begin with.

TWELVE. Hatori has had a new maid for awhile now; she is older and very traditional and strict. Akari, Hatori’s father, has turned to alcoholism to deal with the loss of his best friend and confidant- Akira. Hatori watches as his father begins to fall apart. At twelve, he begins the hypnosis training and works on erasing small memories from people to practice on (they were willing participants.) Hatori is knee deep in his school work, at the top of his class. Ayame and Shigure are as flamboyant and wild as ever, but he does his best to avoid their shenanigans. Hatori is labelled as a wet blanket, and he stays pretty recluse.

FOURTEEN-SIXTEEN. School work continues as his father’s health starts to decline. Hatori watches as Ayame and Shigure begin dating girls around their school, he has no interest towards the opposite sex. Hatori’s days are spent studying, and trying to wrestle Ayame and Shigure out of trouble. He works his way onto the student council to watch over Ayame- the current president- and he often has to chide the snake from being malicious towards other students. He immediately gains his license, and is now tasked with driving everyone around. Though a nervous driver at first, Hatori finds driving to eventually be a stress reliever, and he’s quite good at it.

SEVENTEEN. Hatori’s father’s liver gives out, and Akari Sohma passes while Hatori is just seventeen years old. He remains living at home, the house now in his name. He lives with his second maid, the much more strict and traditional one, and he finds living alone to not be much different from when his father was alive. Hatori never formed a bond with his dad, but he did take his passing very hard. Now the weight of hurrying medical school has fallen on his shoulders, Hatori hides his sorrow in his studies, working as hard as he can to try and graduate early for the family, as his father passed on much quicker than they all expected. He has to erase Yuki’s (his younger cousin) friends’ memories, as he transforms into his rat form in front of them. This is the first time Hatori has ever had to seriously erase memories, and Yuki is devastated, losing his only friends. Hatori’s heart is broken, and more and more, he continues to build the wall. Hatori graduates a year early, at the top of his class. He goes straight into university.

NINETEEN. Hatori still lives at home; he is unable to live at the dorms because he needs to stay on the estate and protect his family. He commutes to school every day, and then comes home and studies under a doctor the family hired briefly for Hatori to learn the ropes. Hatori is tasked with erasing Momiji’s mother’s memories. There is a massive falling out between Akito/Kureno/Shigure/Ren, but Hatori can’t take his focus off school long enough to figure out the full story. Shigure moves off the estate, and Hatori continues drowning in medical textbooks.

TWENTY-ONE-TWENTY-THREE. Hatori finishes medical school with honors, making his family proud. Returning to Akito’s side full time, it is no longer Shigure who is the lap dog, but Kureno. Hatori is chained onto her leash, and he finds himself bound to her. Life becomes boring, and Hatori slips into a quiet depression as each day of his life becomes the same, and the months begin to meld together. Setting up his space in his father’s old doctor’s office, he learns that Shigure has received a book deal (finally, after writing textbooks for so long), and Ayame bought a shop to start selling clothes in. Hatori, somewhere deep down inside himself, is happy that they all seem to be moving on with their lives. Almost to a degree of normalcy, despite the ever present curse.

TWENTY FOUR. Realizing keeping his office organized on his own is a massive undertaking with how busy he is, Hatori hires an assistant. Kana. Within a week or two of knowing her, Hatori realizes he’s in love with her. Falling fast and hard, Hatori wasn’t sure how to process his own new, budding emotions. Having just assumed that he might never marry, or if he did, he would end up resentful and hateful like his father, Hatori works quickly to try and win her love, though he is surprised to find that she is just as infatuated with him as he is with her. After two months, Hatori goes to Akito to ask to take Kana’s hand in marriage. Akito is furious, she throws a punch to Hatori’s eye that is so damaging, he loses almost all of his vision in his left eye, and Kana becomes distraught. In less than two weeks time, Kana deteriorates and Hatori must erase her memories to free her of the guilt. Kana leaves, unburdened, and Hatori is left to nurse his wounds alone. His heart is shattered into pieces, and he becomes a shell of a man. During his relationship with Kana, Shigure dated Kana’s best friend, Mayu, so they could double date- but Shigure found no interest in her and their relationship fizzled out not long after Kana left.

TWENTY FIVE-TWENTY-EIGHT. The Fruits Basket manga begins here, chronicling his journey with the rest of his family, and meeting Tohru. Due to a chain of events, Hatori’s curse is broken and he is free. Due to some meddling on Shigure’s end, Mayu and Hatori begin to date, and Hatori thinks he can see a future with her.

TWENTY-NINE. Mayu and Hatori go on vacation together, a romantic getaway to ease the stress and so Hatori can secretly celebrate his curse finally breaking. As soon as they land in paradise, all hell breaks loose and they spend the entire vacation bickering. It ended with Hatori finally just offering for them to leave early and forget the whole thing. After arriving home, they spent a few weeks apart and then met up, both apologizing for the way things ended. Even with the curse broken, Hatori does not stray from his family. Remaining in his childhood home on the estate, Hatori continues working a nine to five shift every day of the week, besides Sundays. Yes, his work load is much lighter now that the curse has dissipated.

THIRTY-THIRTY-THREE. Hatori and Mayu are “together” in a tumultuous relationship. They’re on again, off again, and bicker like an old married couple. Despite this, they always come back to one another eventually. Hatori feels as if they have some sort of destiny together, but Mayu’s insecurities about his past with Kana has made her paranoid and jealous. On top of that, Mayu’s constant temper just always puts Hatori in a foul mood and he can’t say in good conscious that he enjoys her company often. Hatori is miserable, but he puts up with her. They don’t live together, though Mayu stays the night with him more often than not, and they go on double dates with Shigure and Akito, and sometimes Ayame and Mine.

THIRTY FOUR. Ayame and Mine have a beautiful wedding, Hatori attended as a best man and watched enviously as Ayame married the love of his life. Mayu attended as his wedding date, and nothing more.

THIRTY FIVE. The following year, Akito and Shigure tie the knot as well, living on the estate together. Their relationship is volatile, with fiery fights and equally fiery make-up sessions. This is the second wedding Hatori attends, once again as a best man. Mayu joins him once again to be his wedding date, but their relationship has fizzled out to nothing at this point. Hatori hears rumors that Mayu has started dating again, and he’s genuinely happy for her. Kureno has a young blonde living in his home, but Hatori isn’t nosy.

THIRTY EIGHT. Akito is pregnant with a baby girl, Hatori helps deliver the child on the Sohma estate, next to a hysterical Shigure. The former dog was one of the proudest fathers Hatori has ever seen, and his stomach sank when Shigure offered to let Hatori hold his newborn. Hatori declined, leaving the room shortly after so the new parents could spend time together.

FORTY. Shigure and Akito now have a toddler, and Hatori enjoys coming by to visit when he has the time. Swamped down in work, (or so he says), Hatori doesn’t see Shigure no where near as often as he used to. While he enjoys playing with his niece, it’s a painful reminder of the things Hatori never had, or will ever have. Motherhood looks nice on Akito. Hatori receives a call not long after that Mine is pregnant as well, with twins. The happy news keeps coming, as Hatori receives another phone call from Tohru within the same week- Kyo asked for her hand in marriage. Hatori’s drinking begins to increase, his usual evening glass of scotch now turning into three, four, five….

FORTY-FIVE. Tohru and Kyo have a child together, and once again, Hatori becomes the uncle. It’s not often that he deigns to go visit all of his cousins and his nieces and nephews, but when he does, the kids seem excited. Hatori’s hair has abruptly turned grey. It’s drive to go out and see Kyo and Tohru, but he tries to make the trip at least once a year. Most of the Sohmas have moved on with their lives, moving away from the estate and no longer needing his help. As they were no longer cursed, they could go see any medical doctor they pleased. Hatori becomes very aware that while everyone moved on, Hatori was now useless, stuck, alone, in this one spot of time, relieving the same day over and over again. It’s almost not worth even going into his office, he knows he won’t have any patients. Instead, he finds himself staying home most days and living off his savings. No one really hears from Hatori anymore; and while Ayame and Shigure are increasingly worried, they have their own families to attend to- and after all, Hatori’s always been alone. This was nothing new.

FIFTY. Sinking deep into a depression that not even the aid of prescriptions he had easy access to could help, Hatori felt the weight of his own loneliness begin to cave in on him. The alcoholism that ran in his family has taken root onto him, and Hatori knew he could never escape. The years of building that wall had resulted in nothing. Realizing he gained nothing by pushing people away for so long, Hatori desperately tries to reach out and be apart of everyone’s lives again. The young nieces and nephews don’t seem to remember him, and they’re no longer excited to see Uncle Hatori when he stops by. Hatori looks twice the age of Kureno, Ayame, and Shigure, the years of smoking and drinking catching up to him. Hatori falls ill shortly after, being hospitalized.

FIFTY-TWO. Diagnosed with lung cancer after years of smoking to deal with his panic disorder and anxiety, Hatori passes away at fifty-two years old, and leaving behind nothing he thinks is noteworthy. No wife, no predecessor, no family. Everyone was able to stop by and tell him goodbye as his health took a sharp decline towards the end, and he passed away during the night alone. Despite his many regrets, Hatori was thankful to have everyone around him, and have everyone show him so much love, even when he struggled to show it back. Hatori may not think so, but he died with dignity, everyone in the family thinking so highly of him and everything he accomplished in his life. Shigure and Ayame took it the hardest, but they moved on to take care of their families. Not a day goes by where neither of them don’t think about Hatori at least once.

Hatori & photography!

♠️ Headcanon: Hatori is interested in photography! He’s a more refined individual- he’s admired paintings and photography since he was a child. As he’s always been busy with his school work, and then taking care of the family, it is something he’s always wanted to pursue, but never had the time for. His ultimate dream is being able to travel the world take photos of his travels; particularly: landscapes, and his loved ones enjoying themselves in the exotic places. This is a yearning to get off the estate as well; he wants to escape.

Hatori, despite having the money to purchase a rather pricey and nice DSLR camera, has only ever owned disposable film cameras. He uses them to take photos of his family members, and Akito enjoys when he does- she even encourages him. He has the photos developed each time he fills the camera up. He keeps the photos he takes private, and keeps a small album of the family hidden away in his home. It’s one of his most prized possessions.

He was the one to take the photo of Kana that he keeps on his desk; that one is the most special.

Photographs are important for Hatori for two reasons: the first being that they can capture a memory. A large chunk of Hatori’s personality is closely tied to memories (being that he can erase them at will), and the subject of memories tends to be very touchy for him. Hatori is a man who believes you can lose everything, but memories are always permanent. It is a painful reminder for him when he has to erase memories to protect the family- the truth is, nothing is permanent, nor will it ever be. It truly frightens him.

It is just his delusions of grandeur.

However, a camera can capture that moment. Even what he can erase can be captured on film, and that is something entirely novel to the dragon.

The second reason being a form of control– Hatori had his entire life planned out for him by his domineering father before he was even born. Attention isn’t something he enjoys- in fact, the doctor would be happiest to just blend in. Being behind the camera is a form of this. He is able to watch his family, watch his loved ones enjoy themselves from behind the safety of his lens. He is able to capture the moments they would want to remember forever. He is able to do so without being there, without spoiling the perfect moment with his own dull presence. It eases his anxiety. Hatori very much enjoys staying on the outside, looking in.

He is NOT a fan of having his picture taken, however, the few that exist of him are from his high school days. It’s a source of insecurity. He genuinely doesn’t feel as if his presence warrants being remembered and encapsulated in a photograph forever.

Photography is something he very deeply wishes to pursue on a more grand scale- buy a nice camera, take it up as a hobby…

But he’s much too busy, and fears it would be burden on the family.
